Katherine Tay

Katherine has been playing the harp from a young age, having learned the instrument from her mother when she was four years old.

As a child together with her twin sister - Karen, she was a member of a children’s harp ensemble, known as Harps Unlimited, and performed in numerous events with the group under the guidance of Magdalene Wong. Her experience in harp ensembles extended into Secondary School, where she trained with the Paya Lebar Methodist Girl’s Secondary School Harp Ensemble.

Katherine also regularly volunteered at Ng Teng Fong General Hospital, performing the harp and guitar for elderly patients in wards. Together with a group of friends, she brought smiles and familiar tunes to elderly patients to brighten up their Saturday afternoon.

In the early half of 2020, Katherine was a harpist at The Fullerton Hotel, once again bringing familiar tunes to hotel guests.

Katherine’s favorite past-time is to jam her favorite pop songs on the harp. From anime themes to Ed Sheeran, she finds that playing familiar tunes invokes an interesting dose of nostalgia and warmth. It is with this sentiment that Katherine enjoys guiding students in learning how to play their favorite tunes on the harp.

Katherine is currently an undergraduate at the National University of Singapore, studying Global Political Economy and Southeast Asian Studies. Besides playing the harp, she also enjoys reading, writing, and research.
